When you think of a girls' getaway, what comes to mind? Maybe a trendy boutique hotel, cute coffee shops, fabulous restaurants, a little retail therapy, local art, and plenty of opportunities to catch up with your favorite people over a cocktail.
Now imagine finding all of that, along with a welcoming small-town feel, an unexpectedly vibrant arts scene, and so many things to do that you'll already be planning your return trip before you leave. Welcome to Hamilton County, Indiana!
Located just north of Indianapolis, Hamilton County might not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a girls' weekend, but that's exactly what makes it such a fun discovery. Made up of Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, and several charming northern towns, this area is full of personality, creativity, incredible local businesses, and experiences that make for a memorable getaway.
We recently had the opportunity to explore the area, and one thing became clear pretty quickly: Hamilton County is seriously underrated! A girls’ trip is our yearly tradition and I’m so excited to share all the magic we experienced in Indiana!

First Impressions: Friendly Faces & Midwest Charm
One of my favorite parts of traveling is getting to know a destination through the people who call it home… And well, Hamilton County absolutely delivered.
From the moment we started exploring, we were struck by how genuinely friendly everyone was. Locals were welcoming, happy to share recommendations, and enthusiastic about showing off their communities. It felt like the kind of place where people aren't just going about their day but are genuinely excited that you're there to experience it, too.
There is something refreshing about visiting a destination where you feel welcomed rather than like just another tourist.
That friendliness, paired with the area's beautiful neighborhoods, walkable downtowns, locally owned businesses, and thriving food scene, made Hamilton County feel both comfortable and exciting. And don't mistake that welcoming Midwest personality for a sleepy destination. There is a whole lot happening here!
Taking Aim & Making Memories at Strawtown Koteewi Range
Ok this one surprised us! Who knew a little friendly competition could be this much fun? We headed to Strawtown Koteewi Range to try our hand at archery, and it turned out to be such a fun experience! There was something so exciting about learning to aim, finding our focus, and cheering each other on. Of course, there were plenty of laughs along the way, too. It's always more fun trying something new when your best friend is right beside you!
Pouring a Little Creativity at Penn & Beech Candle Co.
A girls' getaway isn't complete without a little creative fun! At Penn & Beech Candle Co., we got to create our own candles, choosing fragrances and blending scents that spoke to our personalities. It was such a relaxing and lovely experience, filled with sniffing, debating our favorite fragrances, and helping each other create the perfect candle. And the best part? We got to take home a little piece of our getaway!
Good Food, Great Conversations & Restaurant Hopping
What's a getaway without exploring the local food scene? We made sure to sample some of Hamilton County's restaurant offerings, enjoying delicious meals and those long conversations that somehow never seem to end when you're with your best friend. From deciding what to order to sharing bites and catching up between stops, every meal became another little highlight of our trip. Because honestly, good food always tastes better with great company!
Fall Finds and Farmside Fun at Stuckey Farm & Orchard Mill
There is something magical about visiting a farm in autumn! Our stop at Stuckey Farm brought all those cozy fall feels. Think beautiful autumn surroundings, seasonal charm, and plenty of opportunities to soak in the harvest-season atmosphere. We also made time for Orchard Mill, adding another fun stop to our farm-inspired adventures. These are the kinds of places that make you slow down, enjoy the season, and appreciate the simple joys of being together.

Dancing, Singing & Celebrating at the Diwali Festival
One of the most vibrant highlights of our getaway was attending the Diwali festival! The energy was absolutely infectious, with colorful celebrations, music, dancing, and so much joy all around. We danced, sang, and quite literally enjoyed the night away! Experiencing the festivities together made it even more special. It was a beautiful reminder of how travel gives us opportunities to immerse ourselves in different celebrations, embrace culture, and create memories that stay with us long after the music stops.
Dirty Soda Firsts, Apple Cider Donuts & Local Chats at Urban Apples
This stop deserves a special mention because it came with a first for me: trying a dirty soda! At Urban Apples, we indulged in delicious apple cider donuts, tried something new, and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere. Add live music to the mix, and you have the perfect afternoon! But perhaps my favorite part was simply sitting around, listening to music, and yapping away with the locals. Those spontaneous conversations with people you meet along the way often become some of the sweetest travel memories.
Discovering Hidden Gems at Local Family-Owned Shops
We love discovering local shops whenever we travel, and Hamilton County did not disappoint! We spent time browsing charming, family-owned stores, discovering unique finds, and appreciating the stories behind these small businesses. There's something so special about shopping local, meeting the people behind the businesses, and finding things you wouldn't necessarily come across in a big retail store. Naturally, there was plenty of browsing, sharing opinions, and convincing each other about what we absolutely needed to take home!
Chasing Autumn Colors at Strawtown Koteewi Park
We couldn't leave Hamilton County without soaking in its beautiful fall scenery! A visit to Strawtown Koteewi Park was the perfect way to slow down and enjoy nature. The gorgeous autumn colors, crisp air, and peaceful surroundings made it such a refreshing experience. We wandered, admired the changing leaves, snapped pictures, and simply enjoyed being outdoors. Sometimes the best moments aren't about doing anything extraordinary; they're about being present with your favorite person in a beautiful place.
A Getaway Filled With Friendship, Firsts & Fall Magic!
Our Hamilton County girls' getaway was so much more than a weekend of sightseeing. It was about trying things we'd never done before, discovering local gems, celebrating culture, tasting new treats, and making time for the kind of conversations that only best friends can have.
From archery targets to handmade candles, dirty sodas to apple cider donuts, and Diwali dancing to autumn strolls, every experience added another chapter to our friendship story.
And isn't that what the best girls' trips are all about? A little adventure, a lot of laughter, endless yapping, and memories you'll be talking about for years!
